Landscape Screening Tool

The Landscape Screening Tool provides a framework for (1) evaluating resource sensitivities of the study area landscape; (2) assessing BLM administrative or cooperator needs and requirements for transportation in the study area; and (3) representing current and potential user demands across the study area. The products of the screening tool are (a) landscape sensitivity analysis - combined map and tabulation of resource sensitivities; (b) user conflict analysis - map and tabulation of different user demands and potential areas of conflict between users; and (c) resource effects analysis - map and tabulation of areas of potential negative resource effects. The resource effects analysis relies on a simple impact model of user/resource maps overlays and buffers. Cooperator and user survey information feed into the screening tool. The products of the Landscape Screening Tool are composite maps and tabulations that represent an intermediate synthesis of information and analysis generated to this point in the planning process. These products from the Landscape Screening Tool lay the foundation for the Scenario Generator, used to focus professional judgment of the ID team in evaluating specific parts of the study area for appropriate types and intensities of use.
